An exclusive interview with Marjorie Daniels
Where do you live?
Vancouver Island, Canada
Where can fans write to you?
What inspired you to write your book?
My heroine, Serena, just popped into my head and wouldn't go away. She never lets her handicap stop her from doing what she wants, and she has a great sense of humor.
What's your writing day like?
I write best in the mornings. I try not to listen to my internal editor but just write quickly, going wherever my story takes me. Editing comes later.
Every day I take time out for some kind of exercise. Dancing is my favorite, but I paddle on a dragon boat team twice a week and enjoy cycling or jogging.
Tell us about your family.
I have the most sexy husband who's also my best friend and soul mate. Our son and daughter both live in Ontario, so we burn up the phone lines on Sundays when we talk to our grandsons.
Do you have any pets?
Sadly we're without one right now since we like to travel. When our kids were small we had budgies, gerbils and a cat called Sammy. Our most recent cats were a rascally pair called Toby and Tiger, who could leap to incredible heights. They hated it when we were away, so we found them a good home with a young family.
What are your hobbies?
Trying out new things I haven't had a chance to do before, like taking piano lessons as a 'mature student', then studying a modelling course which led to being hired for fashion and bridal shows and some TV commercials.
What do you enjoy doing for leisure?
I like to read, to play the piano and sing in a choir. I also enjoy taking a picnic lunch and hiking in the hills or along the shore of our beautiful island with my husband.
Who's your favorite author?
I don't have just one. Maeve Binchy, Mary Higgins Clark, Mary Jo Putney, Lavyrle Spencer and Jo Beverley are amongst my favorites.
What's your favorite book?
That's tough to pick. I guess The Glass Lake or Circle of Friends would be two possible choices.
What's your favorite music?
Classical mostly. But I love dance music too.
What's your favorite place?
Sidney-by-the-Sea,on Vancouver Island. Right where my home is. After living in various places from tropical Nigeria to arctic Yukon I think I've landed in paradise.
If you could pick any place that you haven't already visited to visit, where would it be?
Australia. We considered emigrating there from England but chose Canada instead.
Anything else you'd like to say?
Follow your dreams. Choose to be indomitable. What's important is not the roadblocks you encounter but your attitude in dealing with them. Keep your sense of humor handy.
