Laraine Ann Barker

I have scribbled for most of my life but started writing seriously only in 1987 when I began The Obsidian Quest, the first book of my Quest for Earthlight trilogy, published in November 2000 by CrossroadsPub and soon to be republished by Hard Shell Word Factory. The Obsidian Quest reached the finals of the Dream Realm Awards 2001, YA Division. The Little Dragon Without Fire won a New Zealand short story fantasy award in 1997. In the same year my novel Silvranja of the Silver Forest was shortlisted for the Tom Fitzgibbon Award 1997/98, when a comedy won the award itself. This award (administered by the Children¹s Literature Foundation of NZ Inc, P O Box 96 094, Balmoral, Auckland; Email childlitnz@internet.co.nz) is for a novel by an unpublished children's writer and the prize consists of NZ$1,500 and publication by Scholastic New Zealand.
