Elise Title

Before I began writing in 1983, I was a psychotherapist for fifteen years. I worked in the Massachusetts Prison system for six years, then at a private counseling center and finally I went into private practice.

My writing career kicked off in 1984 when I published my first romance novel. After spending so much time helping people cope with serious emotional disorders, writing romances was a great escape. My romance novels were heavily influenced by my love of the screwball comedies of the thirties and forties and film noir of the fifties. Happily, I received the 1991-92 Romantic Times Certificate of Excellence for Innovative Series Romance and four more Certificates of Excellence for individual novels over the next few years. Best of all, one year, readers of Affaire de Coeur Magazine chose me as one of their "Favorite Top Ten Authors". So far, over ten million of my books are in print throughout the world.

I had a brush with fame Hollywood style when my novel, TOO MANY HUSBANDS was under option for a feature film with Geena Davis signed on to star in and produce. It spent five years in development hell, as they say in La La Land before the option ran out. Having gotten bitten by the Hollywood bug, I co-scripted a screenplay with my son David, who is the executive VP of BonMar Entertainment. His company has taken an option on this script and several others, as well as holding options on many of my novels, including JACK AND JILL for film development.

After over fifty romance novels I moved to longer format, more complex writing in January of '95 with the publication of my original soft cover Hollywood novel, HOT PROPERTY. MIRA, the publisher, has put out a hard-cover edition in England, and translations have been released in France, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Australia and Germany, so far.

My first U.S. hard cover thriller, ROMEO, followed. It is the antithesis of my romances, looking into the dark side of love. It has been published in over a dozen countries. Next followed CHAIN REACTION, which has sold overseas but does not yet have an American publisher. I am currently at work on a mystery series that takes place in a prison pre-release center setting. I have also just completed a romantic comedy novella for Harlequin which will appear in their Duet Series. I am also working on a short romantic novella for DiskUs. The tentative title is TONIGHT YOU'RE MINE.

On the personal side, my husband and I are empty-nesters these days, restfully cocooned in New England. My 23 year old daughter is finishing up her master's thesis in English Literature and as I already mentioned, my son is in the film business.
